Venezuelan opposition leader 'presented' Trump with her Nobel Peace Prize

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado revealed that she "presented" President Donald Trump with the Nobel Peace Prize she won "for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela."

Before her Thursday meeting, the U.S. president said it would be an "honor" to share a prize with her, even though he had made it clear he wanted it for himself.

"I presented the President of the United States with the medal of the Nobel Peace Prize," Machado told reporters after the meeting. "And I told him this, listen to this. Two hundred years ago, General Lafayette gave Simón Bolívar a medal with George Washington's face beneath. Bolívar, since then, kept that medal for the rest of his life."

"And it was given by General Lafayette as a sign of the brotherhood between the United States, the people of the United States, and the people of Venezuela in their fight for freedom against tyranny," she added. "And 200 years in history, the people of Bolivar are giving back to the heir of Washington a medal, in this case the Medal of the Nobel Peace Prize, as a recognition for his unique commitment with our freedom."
